Applications are being accepted through February 5th for final WATS testing dates and deadlines.

To change a testing site or date or to inquire about a missing admission ticket for Jan 23, please contact SAT at 866-756-7346 or EXPLORE at 319-337-1369. Please scroll below for current deadlines information:

SAT If you have not yet registered with WATS, you may still choose to test for SAT late on Mar 13th, although these scores cannot be considered for recognition ceremony. All other program benefits remain in place for this testing date. The deadline to apply for this late testing with regular fees is Feb 5th.

ACT You may also elect to test late for ACT on April 10th, though these scores cannot be considered for recognition.  The deadline for this late testing date registration is Feb 5th.

Finally, we are still accepting registrations for the February 20th EXPLORE test. In order to register your student for this test, we must receive your application no later than Jan 22nd in our office. For applications received between Jan 22nd and Jan 29th, you must include a $20 late fee with your WATS application. EXPLORE does not send out testing confirmations until as late as two weeks prior to the test. Mailings for Feb testing go out from Iowa Jan 19-Feb 8th.

 

Application Process

Please fill out the PDF application, then print it - handwritten applications are accepted, but must be legible. Be sure to fill out every question on the application. It is particularly important to list the student name exactly the same on the SAT/ACT registration form, or the test company will view the error as two different students and be unable to match files. You must provide student identification information to retrieve student records. A photocopy of previous Talent Search scores for past participants (i.e. SAT, ACT, and EXPLORE) can now be accepted as eligibility criteria for WATS. Incomplete applications will be returned.

Test Selection

Only the following dates qualify a student for participation in WATS or for consideration for Recognition Ceremonies - no exceptions can be made due to timing of score reports, despite more test date options showing up on registration forms:

SAT December 5 January 23
ACT December 12 February 6
EXPLORE January 23 February 20

It is also important to provide a family e-mail address that will be accessible through the Talent Search year. E-mail contact allows us to send important reminders and information in a timely manner. No contact information will be shared with anyone outside of CBK without your consent. *All Recognition Ceremony information will be sent via e-mail. If you change addresses during the year, you must update with WATS in order to receive ceremony invitations and information.

Fees

The $40 WATS application fee is non-refundable and does not pay for the tests themselves. This fee covers the cost of postage, printing, and processing of registration, analysis of score data, the Interpretive Guide, the Summer Opportunities Guide, coordination with schools and districts, and participation certificates.

Sign the application, and mail it with the correct payment by check made out to CNDC CBK (please note the student name on the info line):

For SAT One check for $40 (WATS fee)
You will send the SAT test fee directly to SAT.
For ACT One check for $40 (WATS fee)
You will send the SAT fee directly to ACT.
For EXPLORE One check for $70 (WATS fee + $30 EXPLORE test fee)
SAT + ACT One check for $40 (one WATS fee no matter how many tests)
SAT and/or ACT + EXPLORE One check for $70 (one WATS fee no matter how many tests + EXPLORE test fee)

Students who qualify for the free/reduced lunch program at school are eligible for a $20 reduction of the WATS fee. A limited number of SAT and ACT fee waivers are also available based upon date of registration. To qualify, documentation of free/reduced lunch program eligibility must accompany the WATS application with the $20 reduced WATS fee. Only one waiver can be distributed per student, even if taking multiple tests. EXPLORE does not offer waivers, but students may qualify for assistance through WATS for this test. This program may ultimately be free to qualifying students, especially those in 6th-8th grades.

Deadlines

The deadlines for this application vary by chosen test and date.

All deadlines are postmarked deadlines, meaning the last day you can drop your application to WATS or to the testing companies in the outgoing mail (there must be a pick-up at your box after the time you deposit your mail!). The WATS window of time prior to the test company deadline is due to the two-step application process. Once WATS processes your application, SAT or ACT will send the registration packet for the test itself and you will need to get that second application in prior to their deadlines. For EXPLORE, additional time is needed not only to process applications, but to hand-register each student for the test with EXPLORE. No second application will be sent to you.
